EU Funding, Albion Dockyard work and Gillingham Pier update

Posted in Shipyard Blog

As you may or may not know, The Medway Queen project has had a bumpy patch lately to do with EU funding, but now we are pleased to announce that funding has been restored, this has saved the jobs of many staff and apprentices. From the help of Peter Skinner Labour MEP for the South East, the Medway Queen project can continue their work restoring the PS Medway Queen.

At Albion Dockyard, work has been done to finish forward end shot blasting and internal painting, now work has begun on the decking of the ship, it being laid out ready for its return to Gillingham Pier.
Soon enough the machinery will be being installed into the ship, this includes the main engine, the condenser, the crankshaft and the paddle shafts.
There is still a lot of hand riveting that needs to be done before the ship can come to Gillingham, but the men at Albion Dockyard are working hard to finish this work off.

At Gillingham Pier, work has begun on the timber for the fenders once they are finished they will be transported to Bristol so that they can be fitted.
