Below is a brief list of projects that have not started. Designs and estimates for these have not been finalised or approved by the Board of Trustees. When any of these are ready we may invite to to donate to a specific project. A link to a project donation page will then appear on the specific project.
If a donation is made for a specific project then please note the following:
The Trustees of the MQPS reserve the right to allocate any surplus funds to an alternative project or towards general maintenance If:

• The value of the donations received exceed the value required for the project.
•  The project completes below the value of the donations received.
• The project is cancelled for any reason.

Heating and ventilation

​The aim of this project is to make the Forward and Aft Saloons more comfortable in winter and Summer. The hope is to provide heating during cold months and some form of ventilation or air condition in the summer months. No work has been started to assess various options. Any expertise you can provide on this topic would be very appreciated

Install Mast

This project is to reinstate a mast on the forward deck. The Medway Queen Preservation Society received a mast as a donation from the Chatham Historic Dockyard Trust. Some work has been done on what is required to install the mast but the design work needs to be completed and any cost estimates revised to reflect the prevailing material and service costs. Once the estimates are complete we can then launch an appeal to help with funding.

The mast is used to hold navigation lights and any communication equipment. It will improve the external look of the Medway Queen.

The following is not an exhaustive list, but includes:

• electrical cables run through the middle
• Navigation lights that meet current Marine Coastguard Association standards
• Treating with exterior quality varnish (several coats)
• New collars made, which need to be bespoke:
  •  One at the top of the mast to hold the shrouds
  • One where it goes through the upper deck
  • One where it sits on the lower deck
• Shrouds, which hold the mast up.
• Fittings to terminate the shrouds against the hull
• A crane capable of lifting the mast into place.

Disabled Stair Lift

This will provide a stair lift on one side of the forward companionway to provide access to the forward and aft saloons for those people who are unable to manage stairs. For wheel chair users we will make one available at the foot of the stairs so you do do not have to rely on someone carrying yours up and down the stairs.

Any amount however small will help us achieve the target.

Access to Crew's Quarters

The crew's quarters are currently inaccessible to visitors. This compartment is situated below the front of the forward saloon. The workshop crew rarely need to go down there, but if they do then a heavy plate has to be lifted and then a ladder lowered down. The plan is to open this area and fit it out with bunks to replicate what the crew quarters would have looked like.
