Every year the National Lottery offer projects they have funded or are funding the opportunity to appear on the BBC One Awards Ceremony and to win £2000! There are seven winners, and we would really like to be one of them.
If you would like to support us click here to nominate the Medway Queen Preservation Society! The “Heroine of Dunkirk” the PS Medway Queen would like to hear from anyone that worked on her mainly in the engine room or has drawings or photographs of the engine room.
The Medway Queen Restoration project is restoring the 1924 paddle steamer and needs as much information as they can get, the main information required is for the engine room, the layout, the equipment installed and any auxiliary equipment such as gauges etc. If you are able to help please contact the Medway Queen workshop on 01634 575812 or the Project Office 01634 575717, email [email protected] or write to the following address; Medway Queen Restoration Project Gillingham Pier Pier Approach Road Gillingham Kent ME7 1RX We all have our own personal memories that can be included in the Medway Queen story. There are many names of people that have contributed their time and skills to bring our little ship to where she is today and it is their work that makes it possible to celebrate the Medway Queen’s 90th birthday this April.
April 23rd (Wednesday) is the actual date of her launching. The ship will be dressed overall for that day. Saturday 26th will be an open day at Gillingham Pier for society members and the public. We will invite as many ex crew members as possible to “re-join” their old ship. The ship and visitor centre will be open and light refreshments available. Contact Brian Goodhew on 01795 843317 for more details On Sunday 27th there will be an inter-denominational thanks giving church service on board the ship at about 2pm including a blessing of the ship. Contact Mark Bathurst for more details: 01843 227941 or email [email protected]. The Visitor Centre will again be open for the afternoon. We know you are all excited to get on the PS Medway Queen and have a tour around the ship, and soon at will be possible, the access ramp for the ship should be in place by the end of the month! But we wouldnt advise anyone to turn up to soon, as it is just an estimate, but if you would like more information about getting on the ship, you can e-mail [email protected] |
