STEAMBOAT JAZZ

16/10/2016

Picture
The Steamboat Jazz event was a fantastic success on Friday (14th October). Our grateful thanks not only to "Steamboat" but to everybody who worked so hard to organise the event and sell tickets. Around 100 people including the Mayor and Mayoress made up the enthusiastic audience. The raffle held at the performance was well patronised and those who went along had a great time.

LOCALGIVING - GROW YOUR TENNER

11/10/2016

A "Localgiving" online scheme starts at 10am on Tuesday 18th October. One off donations and direct debits will be matched up to £10 by a central Localgiving fund until their maximum is reached.  Only one donation per person qualifies for the match funding and the scheme will run until 5pm on Thursday the 17th November 2016 or until the match fund runs out (whichever comes first).

Thanks to the Office for Civil Society, the total match fund for this year's Grow Your Tenner is now £345,000! This means each charity will have the chance to benefit from up to £2,500 of match funding: £1,000 from one-time donations and £1,500 from Direct Debits.

Memorial service for Marshall Vine

11/10/2016

         Memorial Service for Marshall Vine

A memorial service was held aboard Medway Queen on Sunday 2nd October to celebrate his life and his contribution to the ship’s restoration. The service was attended by his friends and was conducted by Deacon Pru Cahill. The ship looked resplendent on one of the highest tides of the year on a beautiful sunny afternoon. Our thanks must go to Pam & Mark Bathurst and Noreen Chambers for organising the event.

Refreshments were served after the service which gave everyone a chance to mingle and catch up on events and gossip. Brian Goodhew, who was the galley boy 63 years ago, returned to the galley to serve teas and coffees to the guests. This was a truly fitting farewell and “thank you” to Marshall. A memorial plaque has been manufactured and presented to the ship for display in the aft saloon.
