The Centre and Vessel will reopen again on Saturday the 7th March.. Please keep an eye on the News Page for any further closures. We apologise for any inconvenience caused but as you will appreciate everyone is working hard to get the Medway Queen looking her best for the Ramsgate Dunkirk Commemoration Event in May. The Society is delighted and proud to have been chosen as a finalist by the Kent Charity Award Judges for their 2015 ward in the Category of Heritage and Environment. There were originally 150 applicants and we are one of the remaining 18 finalists. The Awards will be presented at a Gala Evening on the 19th March 2015 at the Corn Exchange, Rochester. The Medway Queen Preservation Society is pleased to announce that through the efforts of their Patron, Admiral Lord West of Spithead, they have secured the sum of £15,000 from the Gosling Foundation which was founded by Rear Admiral Sir Donald Gosling KCVO Kt. This sum is to enable the Medway Queen to attend the Ramsgate 75th Anniversary Commemorations of the evacuation of the Troops off the beaches of Dunkirk in May 1940, code named Operation Dynamo.
Mr Brain Burton, Chairman of the Medway Queen Preservation Society said, "This is a fantastic opportunity to showcase the Medway Queen and all of the hard work that has been done so far. The Society thanks Lord West and Sir Donald for their decisive support". Morrison's Supermarkets have kindly donated the "Medway Queen" Pub Sign to the Society. The sign once stood in the car park of the Public House, The Medway Queen, in Street End Road, Chatham but the lease of the property was sold in 2013 by Enterprise Inns to Morrison's, who planned to build a mini supermarket on the site. Thank you Morrison's for such an unusual and interesting gift.
