Saturday 3rd - Don't forget

Jazz night Saturday 3rd September.

The ship will be open as usual (11am-4pm, last admission 3pm) on Saturday 3rd September with ship tours, and cream teas available on board.

In the evening we have our first Jazz Night, which is something of a trial run but may well be repeated if there's a demand. BOOK NOW!

Funding News 2 - Magic Little Grant

As you are all aware we use the Localgiving website for online donations. We are delighted to announce that in addition to the generous public and members' donations received that way, we have also been awarded a “Magic Little Grant” of £500 which we have used on workshop equipment and materials.

Having the right tools and materials is essential from a safety point of view. It also increases the job satisfaction of our volunteers and, hence, their mental wellbeing. Anything we can do to make the job better, safer and quicker, has to be worthwhile and receiving a grant for this specific purpose is a great boost.

The “Magic Little Grants” programme is supported by the People’s Postcode Lottery and administered through Localgiving.

Bosch Slide mitre saw. (the one we have does not cut accurately)
Set of 40mm knives and limiters for the Spindle moulder. (to be used for shaping parts of the paddle fascia)
PTFE tenon saw
PTFE 20" handsaw
1/2" radius router cutter. (to be used for shaping decorative pieces on the paddle wheel cover)
6 piece screwdriver set
Digital depth gauge (essential for accurate of setting blades on the planer/thicknesser
20 pairs of safety handler gloves.

Funding news 1 - Medway Lottery

Medway Lottery have reminded us that they have a draw for a £1000 Curry's voucher this coming Saturday.

JAZZ NIGHT ON MEDWAY QUEEN

We have been working for some time towards making Medway Queen a venue for selected events. It has always been a case of "one step forward and two back" as we navigate the administrative and physical difficulties. Now, at last, we can announce a trial event to see how things go:

Medway Queen was renowned for music, and especially Jazz, during her time on the Isle of Wight. Come along and help us recreate that atmosphere!!

HMS Medway Queen card kit

Polish company, JSC, have produced a 1/400 scale card kit of four vessels involved in Operation Dynamo, including HMS Medway Queen. each kit comes in book form with rigid hull parts to make models of HMS Medway Queen, HMS Codrington (destroyer), HMS Basilisk (destroyer) and HMS Thuringia (a/s trawler).

The kits retail at £9 each (for all 4 ships) and are available from our website shop and the MQ Visitor Centre. If you order a combination of the kit and our "Memories of Dunkirk " book at the same time the kit is charged at just £7 making and order total of £15 plus P&P
