On the 5th-6th April 2014, we will be represented at the Rats Bay Shindig on Sun Pier, Chatham.
Open from 11:00 - 17:00 both days plus evening entertainment! See www.ratsbayshindig.co.uk for more details See you there! We all have our own personal memories that can be included in the Medway Queen story. There are many names of people that have contributed their time and skills to bring our little ship to where she is today and it is their work that makes it possible to celebrate the Medway Queen’s 90th birthday this April, we are having a Birthday Party Weekend on 26th and 27th April.
April 23rd (Wednesday) is the actual date of her launching. The ship will be dressed overall for that day. Saturday 26th will be an open day at Gillingham Pier for society members and the public. We would like to invite as many ex crew members as possible to “re-join” their old ship. The ship and visitor centre will be open and light refreshments available. Contact Brian Goodhew on 01795 843317 for more details or look on www.medwayqueen.co.uk. On Sunday 27th at 2.30pm we will be holding a service of thanksgiving and a blessing of the ship and we will include the laying of two wreaths. The first will be in memory of those who fell at Dunkirk and veterans who have since passed on and the second, in memory of our society members and supporters, who have not lived to see our gallant ship afloat again and moored "alongside". Members of all faiths and denominations are most welcome to attend and it is hoped that many of you will attend this important occasion. Refreshments will be available afterwards. For further details contact the Mark and Pam using the e-mail address; [email protected] or by telephone 07970 942125 Good Afternoon! Attached are some photographs of the ship at the moment, not any major work is happening, we are doing small important work like painting until more funding is available to us. The upper deck of the PS Medway Queen, temporary access fixing has been installed to give us the ability to lock access to the forward saloon. The Aft Saloon decking has been covered over with hardboard to stop any damage to the wood whilst painting is going on. Temporary ramps have been installed for when visitors can be on board. Engine machinery is currently being assessed to see what we can salvage and what needs re-machining. We are hoping to get funding for the engine room soon.
Mark and Pam Bathurst are delighted to announce that they are organising another Summer Evening Dinner, at Medway Yacht Club (Lower Upnor, Rochester ME2 4XB) on Friday 11th July. The club restaurant provides a meal to a very high standard and the cost is expected to be in the region of £22.00 - £23.00. M.Q.P.S. have held dinners at this venue before and they have always been delightful occasions. The location, overlooking the River Medway, is enchanting. It is an occasion when we can meet socially and gives us the opportunity to “showcase” our project and raise awareness of what we are doing. We hope to make this a really memorable evening, a time to celebrate the arrival of our beloved ship at Gillingham Pier, as well as look forward to exciting times ahead. Come along, enjoy our party and have fun! Friends and guests are most welcome and do not have to be members, but numbers are limited. Although details of the menu are not yet available, prospective patrons are advised to make a provisional booking as soon as possible. Book now, don’t delay!
All necessary information will be available, nearer the time. If you would like to come, make sure that Pam and Mark have your contact information, so that they are able to ensure that you have full details when they are to hand.
