Medway Queen operated as a restaurant and nightclub on the Isle of Wight from Saturday 14th May 1966 until late in 1974. She built up an enviable reputation as the place to go and hosted many events and special occasions. "The Boat" as she was known is still fondly remembered by many.
To celebrate the 50th anniversary MQPS and Island Harbour Marina are collaborating on events to mark the occasion and raise funds for the ship's restoration. In addition a number of displays of the ship's history have been installed on the island. The largest of these, in Cowes Maritime Museum, opened to the public on 29th April. In addition there are displays at the Wight Bus and Coach Museum (Ryde) and the Classic Boat Gallery (East Cowes).
On the mainland, Swanage Pier also has a "Wight50" display and a much larger exhibit has been installed in Southend Pier Museum - open from early next month. Details to follow.
